Police are working to determine whether a string of five armed street robberies that happened early Friday morning are connected in anyway. The incidents took place in Boston, Cambridge and Brookline, officials say.
Cambridge police say the first armed robbery happened on Franklin Street in the Riverside neighborhood around 2:30 a.m., when two roommates were walking back to their apartment on Putnam Avenue.
The victims reportedly told police that two male suspects jumped out of a dark colored sedan going the wrong direction down the one-way street, and pointed a small, dark handgun at them, grabbing their purses and cell phone.
The suspects then jumped back into the car, which was being driven by a third suspect, police said.
The second armed street robbery took place around 3 a.m., when a student reported to the Harvard University Police Department that he was armed at gunpoint on Arrow Street, Cambridge police said.
Police say the victim told them he was robbed at gunpoint when two men got out of a dark sedan and then hit him with the gun, forcing him to the ground as they stole his headphones, money and other items before fleeing.
The victim in the second armed robbery was had a few minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.

The following two robberies were reported in an alley on 401 Beacon Street, Boston police say. In both incidents, two male suspects jumped out of a vehicle with guns in hand.
Brookline police say they also responded to a similar incident early Friday morning. Two victims informed police they were robbed at gunpoint by two men in the area near St. Paul and Drummer Streets.
Police are still actively searching for the suspects.
