Motorcyclist Killed in Crash During Police Chase

A motorcyclist died in the town of Georgia on Friday, according to Vermont State Police.

A 20-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash after police say he fled from a sheriff's deputy Friday night in Georgia, Vermont.

Police say Timothee Morgan was going 20 mph over the speed limit when a deputy of the Franklin County Sheriff's Department tried to stop him on Plains Road around 11:45 p.m. According to officials, Morgan slowed down at first, but then sped away.

The deputy chased him for about 30 seconds before losing sight of the motorcycle. After driving more slowly around the area, he found the bike had crashed on Polly Hubbard Road.

Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe speed and negligent operation caused the crash. They do not know if drugs or alcohol were factors.

The crash remains under investigation. An autopsy will be performed on Morgan.
