1 Dead in Boston Parking Lot Shooting; Suspect at Large

Police are investigating a shooting in Boston's Mission Hill neighborhood that left one man dead.

A call came in just after noon on Wednesday for a shooting at 192 Alleghany St., which is the parking lot of a busy shopping center that includes Stop & Shop, Walgreens, J.P. Licks and TGI Friday's.

The victim was transported to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

"I heard seven gunshots, I ran to my window, and I see a guy sprinting up my driveway with a pistol in his hand," said Kyle Lebrun, one of the many who heard the commotion.

Brian Tait heard it as well.

"Initially, I'd assumed it was a nail gun or something, because they were doing a lot of construction work in the area," he said.

The area is a diverse neighborhood that includes lots of students. It was cordoned off for hours, keeping many from getting to their homes and their cars all afternoon and into the evening.

"It's scary," said Chelsea Brann. "We figured it was a pretty safe area, lots of college kids."

A vehicle could be seen in the lot with a backseat window shot out.

Police say this was not a random shooting. The victim was shot multiple times and died from his injuries.

"There's too many guns on the street," said Boston Police Superintendent in Chief William Gross. "I think we, as a society, need to help everyone remove these guns from the street."

Officers went door to door speaking to people about what they may have heard or seen.

A K-9 team searched for clues in the neighborhood as well.

The shopping plaza in Brigham Circle is near bustling Huntington Avenue and Tremont Streets.

The area is home to several schools. At least two, Emmanuel College and Mass College of Pharmacy, sent alerts to students that the gun used in the crime had been recovered by Boston Police, but still suggested that students stay away from the area while the investigation took place.

The suspect is still on the loose. Investigators have provided a very limited description of him, saying that he was wearing a brightly colored shirt and that part of his clothing was found in someone's yard.
