Man Shot, Killed by Police in Everett, Massachusetts

A suspect is dead after police shot him

Authorities have identified a man who was shot to death by police Thursday in Everett, Massachusetts.

According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, police responded just after 4:30 p.m. to a report that a man had been harassing pedestrians on Chelsea Street.

When police arrived, the man allegedly drew a knife.

Witnesses recalled the man ignoring officers' commands to drop the knife and advancing toward one of them, according to the DA's office.

That officer opened fire. The man who was shot was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Friday, DA Marian Ryan said the man had been identified as 48-year-old Mario Mejia Martinez.

"I was coming up the street to get a money order and I heard two shots and saw that in the middle of the street," said Kimberly Anderson, an Everett resident.

The streets in the area were blocked off for most of the late afternoon and early evening while investigators worked.
