Police: Maine Father Murdered Newborn Son

A Maine man murdered his newborn son, state police said Saturday.

Eugene "Charlie" Martineau, 24, of Standish, has been arrested and charged with the murder of 3-and-a-half-month-old Leo Josephs.

An autopsy will be performed at the Maine Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of the infant's death.

Leo and his twin sister were born premature, necn affiliate WCSH reports. Authorities said the baby girl is still in the hospital being treated from the early birth.

Martineau will make his first court appearance Monday in Cumberland County Superior Court in Portland.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office is working with state police in the investigation.
