A man has been arrested in Brattleboro, Vermont, after police say he assaulted a 5-year-old girl.

On May 14, Brattleboro Police say they were called with the Vermont Department of Children and Families to a hospital room, where they found the young girl had "significant injuries to her face and body."

Police investigated and arrested 27-year-old Nikolaus Trombley of Brattleboro on Friday.

While authorities have not revealed Trombley's relation to the victim, they confirm that he faces charges of second degree aggravated domestic assault and cruelty to a child.

Trombley is being held without bail on a parole violation. He is due to be arraigned Monday. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
