Police: Man Who May Have Run Over Woman Thought He Hit Deer

Police say they have located a man who they believe was the driver of a truck that struck and killed a 21-year-old woman in Turner, Maine.

Authorities have said 21-year-old Brittany Stanhope was reaching for something in the backseat of her disabled car when she was struck by the truck on Saturday night. Police say they received a call from a 27-year-old Harrison man about the crash on Sunday.

Police say the man is cooperating with officials and his truck has been seized for examination. They are not releasing his name.

Police say the man reported that he believed he had struck a deer. They say he saw a news story about the crash on Sunday morning and called the police.

The investigation is still ongoing.
