Police: Man, Woman Attacked With Hammer in Home Invasion

A Rhode Island man is facing charges in Massachusetts after allegedly participating in an armed home invasion where a Dighton resident was attacked with a hammer.

Twenty-six-year-old Jessi Peralta of Lincoln was arraigned on a slew of charges, including armed home invasion, attempted murder, armed robbery with a firearm, kidnapping and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Dighton police say officers responded to a report of a breaking and entering in progress at a home on Tremont Street just after 4 a.m. Saturday, where one of the officers found a man sitting in a running car who was later identified as Peralta. About that same time, another officer was heading toward the back door of the residence, where he heard a crashing sound in the woods and saw that a sliding glass door had been smashed.

The officer saw that a man and woman emerged from the home, and that the man was severely beaten and covered in blood.

The man was able to tell the officer that three or four males had tied him and the woman up and held guns to their heads as they were robbed and beaten with a hammer.

The suspect fled into the backyard and the homeowner had been able to escape and run to a neighbor's home to call 911, according to police.

Peralta was ordered to be held on $25,000 bail, and Dighton police say they're still searching for other suspects.
