A Vermont VA Medical Center police officer allegedly pointed a gun at another car while passing it in Sidney, Maine, Wednesday.
Maine State Police said the passengers of a car reported at 11:55 a.m. that the driver of a Honda Accord had pointed a handgun at them when passing their vehicle.
The caller kept the Accord within sight until a trooper was able to locate the car at MM105 southbound. The trooper followed the Accord until the mile marker 53 in Gardiner when another trooper joined in. Together, they pulled the vehicle over.
The driver, Demetria Buhalis from Brownsville, Vermont, was interviewed along with the driver and the passenger in the other vehicle, who are both from Maine. Troopers allegedly found a firearm in Buhalis's car that matched the victims' description.
Police said Buhalis is employed at the White River Junction VA Medical Center as a police officer. The public affairs office of the hospital said they couldn't comment on a specific employee but, "If an employee is found to behave in a manner that is not consistent with our commitment to professionalism and safety, we take appropriate and immediate action," said Naaman Horn.
Buhalis was arrested and taken to the Kennebec County Jail. She was charged with aggravated criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail and is due in court June 8.
