    Police Officer Charged With Drunk Driving

    A South Burlington, Vermont, police lieutenant was arrested for drinking and driving early Sunday morning.

    According to police, a car struck a utility pole on College Parkway in Colchester around 2:29 a.m. The motorist, 47-year-old Lieutenant Jeffrey Martel, was arrested after a brief investigation and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He was not injured.

    The lieutenant's blood-alcohol content was 0.133 percent when he took a test 47 minutes after the crash.

    Martel has been placed on administrative leave while Colchester and South Burlington Police investigate. He joined the department in July 1997 and is currently assigned as the prevention services division manager.
