Police Respond to Medical Incident at MBTA Station

There were unconfirmed reports that a train platform collapsed

Police and firefighters responded to a medical incident at the North Billerica, Massachusetts, MBTA station around 10:30 p.m. Friday.

The Billerica Fire Department confirmed that it was on scene with something that collapsed. They had no further information.

There were unconfirmed reports that a train platform collapsed, resulting in injuries.

John Grandy, who was at the train station, said a metal platform attached to the concrete fell as a man stepped on it, trapping the man's leg underneath.

Billerica Police tweeted around 10:45 p.m. that they and firefighters were working a "medical incident" and that rail service had been stopped.

Around 11 p.m., they tweeted that rail service had been restarted and that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority would be the lead agency for the incident. Calls to the MBTA were not immediately returned.
