Three Massachusetts teenagers were arrested on Wednesday after they allegedly fled from an attempted traffic stop in a stolen car and collided with an MBTA bus and an Arlington police cruiser.

Police said an officer was near the Germaine Lawrence School at about 5:30 p.m. when he spotted a suspicious vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Lawrence.

When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the 16-year-old driver fled north on Park Avenue and onto Massachusetts Avenue, where he struck the MBTA bus and police cruiser.

No one was injured and all three suspects were taken into custody.

The juvenile was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, negligent operation, unlicensed operation, failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of property damage (four counts), failure to stop for a red light (two counts), speeding, failure to stop for a stop sign, and marked lanes violation.

Also taken into custody were Isiah Smith, 19, of Lawrence, and another 16-year-old boy. They were also charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

"I am very grateful that nobody was hurt as a result of the recklessness that was on display in this case," Chief Frederick Ryan said. "I am proud of our officers for showing extraordinary poise when faced with an extremely dangerous situation."

It's unclear when the teenagers will be arraigned on the charges.
