Police Searching for Man Wanted for Assaulting Women

Authorities in Portland, Maine, are asking for the public's help with finding a man wanted for approaching lone women at night from behind and assaulting them.

Police say the suspect, who assaulted three women in the area of Congress Street from Neal and Weymouth streets in separate incidents in April and May, is described as in his 30s, between 5-foot 7-inches and 6-feet tall, has long blonde hair, is heavy set with a rugged frame and has two or more lower lip piercings. He was also wearing a baseball cap and glasses.

The first incident was reported at the end of April by a 29-year-old homeless woman, who told police she was assaulted in a rear alley behind Neal Street. The suspect allegedly grabbed her around the neck, grabbed the money she had concealed in her bra and then fled.

The second incident reported to police was by a 30-year-old Portland woman on May 24, who said the suspect grabbed her around the neck, strangled her and took her bra.

On May 27, police say a third Portland woman, 26, reported being assaulted by a man matching the suspect's description in mid-April. She told police the suspect walked up behind her and grabbed her, adding that she pepper-sprayed him and he fled.

Anyone with information about someone matching the suspect's description is asked to call them at 207-874-8575.
