Police Searching for Missing 14-Year-Old RI Girl

Khia Lake was last seen Wednesday at about 10:30 p.m. wearing a black V-neck tank top and black shorts with the word "Dancer" printed on the back.

Authorities searched the water and used police dogs in an effort to find a 14-year-old West Warwick, Rhode Island, girl reported missing since Thursday.

Crews on Monday searched the bike path near the Coventry-West Warwick line early in the morning until about noon for Khia Lake. They didn't find anything.

Police said Lake is known to frequent parks, playgrounds and bike paths.

As crews searched, so did the teens' family and friends. Brooke Foster spent Monday searching and handing out fliers.

"I put up a bunch (Sunday) and I have about 40 (in my car)," she said.

Foster said Lake loved to be around people, and that she was a very sweet girl.

Lake was last seen Wednesday at about 10:30 p.m. wearing a black V-neck tank top and black shorts with the word "Dancer" printed on the back. Lake's mother reported her missing Thursday.

Lake was described as a 5 feet, 3 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds with dark brown hair and brown eyes. Police said she has fair complexion and a lip ring on her lower right lip.

"Mom was with her that evening. She went to bed. When she woke up in the morning she was not in her bedroom," said Maj. John Magiera of the West Warwick Police Department.

"At least she left her home on her own. And she was seen walking shortly around that time in the neighborhood," said Col. Richard Silva.

Police told NBC 10 they believe Khia Lake is alive. Police said Lake had trouble fitting in and that she might be suicidal.

"As we were investigating we became known of some personal issues which are of a concern to us," Silva said.

Family friends told NBC 10 that Khia's mother hopes her little girl is OK and she will return home soon.

"Like anyone would be, her mother's devastated," Foster said. "She wants her daughter to come home."
