Police Seek Charges in Fatal Crash

The crash in the early morning hours of Dec. 20 resulted in the death of 21-year-old Jaime Ortiz

Southbridge, Massachusetts, police are seeking motor vehicle homicide and drunken driving charges against the driver of a car that crashed last month, killing a former star high school athlete.

The Telegram & Gazette reports
that police have referred the case to the Worcester district attorney's office, asking that 24-year-old Michael Garrido of Southbridge be charged with motor vehicle homicide resulting from drunk driving, and negligent driving resulting in a motor vehicle homicide.

The crash in the early morning hours of Dec. 20 resulted in the death of 21-year-old Jaime Ortiz, a 2012 Southbridge High School graduate where he played football and basketball. He also played a year of college football.

Ortiz was a front-seat passenger in the car that struck a tree. Garrido and a back-seat passenger were injured.
