Police: Missing Teen Believed to Be With Sex Offender Could Be in New Hampshire

Authorities say a missing 16-year-old Vermont girl who is believed to be with a convicted sex offender may be in New Hampshire.

Mickayla Lozell of Alburgh was reported missing around 5 p.m. Sunday. She's a ward of the state, but was living with her mother at the time.

Investigators believe Lozell might be with 47-year-old William Smith, a convicted sex offender whose last known address was in Swanton.

According to police, Smith does not have a permanent address listed with Vermont's sex offender registry, and he was not considered a high-risk offender after a 1999 sexual assault conviction.

Lozell called a friend and said that she was OK and in New Hampshire, investigators said. Police do not suspect foul play or believe that Lozell is being held against her will. They said they've received multiple tips and believe she may be in the Concord or Hampton Beach areas.

The two are believed to be driving in a gold-colored Dodge Intrepid with a Vermont license plate of GKR 282.
