Burlington, Vermont, police say a 21-year-old man is being held without bail on a preliminary charge of attempted second-degree murder after a stabbing in the city.

Police say a fight broke out early Thursday between two groups of men after snowballs were thrown at a car on Riverside Avenue. A 28-year-old man ended up stabbed in the neck.

Shoquan Glen of Burlington was arrested and lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Center to await arraignment on Friday.

Police Chief Michael Schirling says the knife wound in the victim's neck missed critical veins by less than a centimeter. The victim, whom police did not identify, is expected to recover.
