Officials: Student Brings Gun to Middle School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts

A student brought a gun to a middle school Friday in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, officials say.

The pistol was found in a locker after a student told a teacher that a classmate had brought the weapon, according to the office of Mayor Daniel Bianchi.

While the gun was not loaded, the student allegedly had a clip with ammunition beside it.

"We have safety protocols in place at all schools and practice them regularly," said Superintendent Jason McCandless in a statement. "As always, we are collaborating wwith the Pittsfield Polilce."

"As always, we appreciate public cooperation with ongoing investigations and encourage residents to report any suspicious or concerning information," said Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn in a statement.

The child's identity was not released, and no legal or academic consequences have been revealed.
