Police: Women Robbed at Gunpoint, One Severely Injured on Popular Walking Trail

Authorities in New Hampshire are asking for the public's help in tracking down an armed robbery suspect accused of seriously injuring a woman.

Police are searching for an armed man who randomly attacked two women in broad daylight Monday evening, seriously injuring one and making off with the other woman's purse.

As the manhunt continues, police are warning residents to be aware of surroundings and don't walk alone.

"It's kind of scary," said Laconia resident Ginny Sanborn.

"I hope they get him, handcuff him, and put him in jail," said another resident Mildred Tuttle.

Police are still searching for the man who allegedly robbed two women at gunpoint at about 5 p.m. Monday. One of them was knocked to the ground and so badly hurt she had to be airlifted to the hospital.

"The fact that it was random and this person is on the loose I would have people use caution," said Laconia Police Sgt. Mike Finogle.

On a cold, snowy day like this, the area appears quiet, but neighbors say when the sun's out, it's a popular spot.

"We walk the trail probably daily," said neighbor Michael Bourque.

The short trail where the attack happened connects downtown Laconia to a shopping plaza and a beach in Belmont.

"I've been here all my life and normally pretty quiet area but last few years it's gotten worse with the drugs," Bourque explained.

Police say the two women were walking back from a shopping trip when police say they became a random target.

The violent crime is the last straw for Laconia dad Tony Manoli who says the city is taking a turn for the worse.

"I don't want to raise my kid here to be quite honest," Manoli said. "I'm hopefully moving out soon."

Police describe the suspect as a man with a goatee and no mustache. They say he's more than 5'6, average weight, with a skinny face.

Police say both women are in their 30s.

One of the victims is still in the hospital. The other was not hurt.
