Man Hospitalized After Threatening Officers With Knife

A man who engaged in a standoff with police in Arlington, Massachusetts Friday morning has been taken into custody and hospitalized.

Police say Sangpo Sherpa, 27 had tried to attack officers with a knife before barricading himself. Officers were originally called to the scene for a report of a man screaming in the backyard of the residence.

The incident occured just after 4 a.m. at 64 Silk Street. A SWAT team was on scene as a cautionary measure, as well as the Arlington Fire Department.

"I am very proud that our officers fell back on their training and used de-escalation techniques and less lethal options," Chief Ryan said. "This was a clearly violent individual and our officers were able to take him into custody without serious injury to anyone involved."

Sherpa is charged with assault with a dangerous Weapon, threat to commit crime, resisting arrest and disturbing the peace.

This incident remains under investigation.
