Prep School Graduate Faces Trial in Rape Case

Owen Labrie accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl on campus two days before he graduated in May 2014

The lawyer for a New Hampshire prep school graduate accused of sexually assaulting a freshman says the trial will go forward next month.

Prosecutors say 19-year-old Owen Labrie of Turnbridge, Vermont, raped the 15-year-old girl just days before his graduation from the elite St. Paul's School in 2014. The say the multiple assaults were part of a tradition known as "Senior Salute" in which seniors attempt to have sex with younger students in the days before graduation.

Defense attorney J.W. Carney said after a final pretrial conference Friday that the trail will begin Aug. 17. He declined to say whether Labrie - who has pleaded not guilty - will testify.

Labrie's charged with three counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault and more than a half dozen other felonies.
