Priest Found Guilty of Child Rape

Rev. Richard McCormick will be sentenced on Dec. 18

A Massachusetts jury has found a priest guilty on five counts of child rape, following a four-day trial.

Rev. Richard McCormick, 73, was convicted of repeatedly raping a boy attending summer camp at the Salesian Brothers' Sacred Heart retreat center in Ipswich where he worked between 1981 and 1982.

McCormick was convicted after Essex Assistant District Attorney Kate MacDougall introduced evidence that a jury found proved he had committed the rapes.

The victim, now 44, was between age 10 and 12 years old at the time.

McCormick is charged with another count of child rape in connection with allegations made by another male victim who attended the same summer camp during the same period. The trial date for this case has not been scheduled.

He will be sentenced for the rapes he has been convicted of on Dec. 18.
