Prison Maintenance Worker Hits Inmate with Snow Plow

A prison inmate was hit by a snow plow Monday in Shirley, Massachusetts.

The Department of Correction confirms the victim, an 40-year-old inmate at MCI - Shirley, was pushing a food cart along a walkway for breakfast.

The victim was conscious and alert when he was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

According to the DOC, a prison maintenance worker was driving the plow and backed into the inmate without seeing him.

While officials believe the crash was accidental, an internal investigation is underway.
