A group of patients, doctors, donors, and parents filed a lawsuit against Boston Children's Hospital to try and stop the hospital from moving forward with an expansion project that would result in the demolition of the popular Prouty Garden.
According to the group, the lawsuit alleges that the hospital "violated state law and regulations by proceeding with construction of and fundraising for the 12-story facility without obtaining Determination of Need approval from the Department of Public Health."
The group has petitioned the state to stop any construction until the project receives all the necessary approvals.
The group held a hearing to summarize the key points of the complaint and present photos of the construction that has already disrupted part of the Prouty Garden which is used as a therapeutic resource for patients.
Boston Children's Hospital released a statement defending their project.
They said, "For more than three years, Boston Children’s has pursued our project to build a clinical building on our Longwood campus to meet the needs of our patients and staff and the growing demand for our care. Throughout the public process we’ve earned approval at every step of the way.”
The judge has not ruled on the decision yet.
