Providence Man Sentenced to Prison for Child Molestation

The man was sentenced to 12 years in prison and 8 years probation

Authorities say a Providence man has been sentenced to prison for child molestation.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced Monday that 22-year-old Markus Acevedo was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by eight years of probation.

Acevedo was found guilty in December of two counts of first-degree child molestation.

Prosecutors say Acevedo molested a 9-year-old girl in April 2011. The victim reported the molestation to her therapist.

The investigation was led by Cranston police Det. Jean-Paul Slaughter.
