Since Friday, parts of the area have received a beneficial rainfall, while others have stayed mainly dry. For example, in Boston, the airport picked up only a quarter inch of rain since the July 29.

Above: the Doppler radar estimates since late last week (the orange shaded contour is the area under a 'severe drought'). The light green shades are rainfall amounts under a quarter-inch, the yellows and oranges are amounts over 1". Just outside of the severe drought area we saw flooding on Tuesday morning.

The picture on the left is courtesy of WWLP in Springfield. One the right, is a picture I took on Tuesday in Brookline, New Hampshire. The picture shows a well being drilled, because the homeowner's well ran dry. These two pictures are 90 miles apart (as the crow flies).

The news isn't good. Our next chance for rain will be on Saturday. That's when we could see showers and thunderstorms, but the coverage will be isolated. What does that mean? Some areas won't see a drop. After those showers and thunderstorms clear out, our weather will be dry again.
