Red Sox Slugger David Ortiz to Receive Honorary Degree From Boston University

The former player will receive his degree during the commencement ceremony on May 21

Boston University will present former Red Sox player David Ortiz with an honorary degree at the university's 144th Commencement Address.

According to Boston University, Ortiz will receive his degree on May 21 during the ceremony on Boston University's Nickerson Field.

Last month, Ortiz was the commencement speaker at the New England Institute of Technology in Rhode Island.

The school presented Ortiz with a Doctor of Humane letters in recognition of his creation of the David Ortiz Children's Fund. The fund helps provide pediatric care to children who do not have access to certain healthcare services in New England, as well as those in his native country of the Dominican Republic.

During his 14 seasons as a Red Sox player, Ortiz earned three World Series wins and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 World Series.
