Red Sox Third Baseman Pablo Sandoval Headed to Disabled List

The third baseman reportedly has a shoulder strain

Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval is headed to the disabled list because of a left shoulder strain, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.

Infielder Josh Rutledge has been recalled from Pawtucket as a replacement.

Manager John Farrell said he couldn't pinpoint when Sandoval hurt the shoulder.

Sandoval had been supplanted in the starting lineup by Travis Shaw after a lackluster spring training. He has struck out in four of his six plate appearances so far this season.
