Report: 5 Boston Bars Violate ‘Pay-to-Play' Rules

The Globe reports that Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill, Estelle's, Gather, Game On Fenway and Coogan's were cited by the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission

Five of the most popular bars in Boston have violated "pay-to-play" rules in the city, accepting thousands of dollars in illegal payments from beer distributors to specifically stock their products, according to the Boston Globe.

The Globe reports that Jerry Remy’s Sports Bar & Grill, Estelle's, Gather, Game On Fenway and Coogan's were cited by the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.

The ABCC says Craft Beer Guild LLC paid these bars $2,000 for every featured beer tap, a practice the ABCC says dominates the market and limits competitors.

The five bars will face the accusations at a Nov. 3 hearing.

Craft Beer Guild LLC is also charged with offering illegal inducements and charging different prices for the same product among different retailers.
