Patriots Trade Logan Mankins

New England has traded the star guard to Tampa Bay for TE Tim Wright and a draft pick, CSNNE confirms

The New England Patriots have traded star guard Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced Tuesday.

The Patriots received 24-year-old tight end Tim Wright and a fourth-round draft pick in 2015 in the deal.

Mankins, a six-time Pro Bowler, was drafted in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft. The 32 year old has been a fixture of New England's offensive line ever since, appearing in 130 regular season games.

In his rookie season with the Bucs last year, Wright made 54 catches for 571 yards in 16 games.

Wright signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers.

The addition of Wright adds depth to New England's receiving core. The only tight ends on the roster before the deal were Rob Gronkowski, Michael Hoomanawanui and Steve Maneri.

As Phil Perry writes on CSNNE.com, the deal marks a major transition as the Patriots give up their longest-tenured offensive lineman before the first season without longtime offensive line coach Dante Scarnecchia, who retired in January.

Mankins served as a captain in three of his nine seasons.
