Reputed Gang Member Denies Fatally Stabbing Veteran

The Providence Journal reports 18-year-old Erico Montalvo pleaded not guilty Wednesday

A reputed Providence, Rhode Island, gang member has denied allegations that he fatally stabbed a U.S. Army veteran and wounded the victim's friend following a fight over a fender-bender that occurred this past summer.

The Providence Journal reports 18-year-old Erico Montalvo pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of murder and assault with a deadly weapon in the July 11 death of 26-year-old Colby Mendonca, of Pawtucket.

Prosecutors say Montalvo, an alleged member of the C-Block street gang, and the victims were involved in a minor car accident around 1:30 p.m. at a Walgreen's parking lot in Providence.

Montsalvo struck surviving victim Russell Gleason's vehicle and then became upset after Gleason said he was going to call the police.

Prosecutors say Montsalvo attacked both men with a knife, killing Mendonca.
