1 Injured in Fire at 3-Story Building

An apartment building has been destroyed and a second one damaged in a fire in Fall River.

The Herald News reports that one person was injured in the Saturday afternoon blaze on Irving Street.

Residents tell the newspaper that they heard an explosion and saw flames from a first-floor apartment at 86 Irving Street, then rescue workers carried one person from that apartment.

The flames reached another multi-family house 20 feet away at 80 Irving St.

Nearby streets were closed and heavy smoke could be seen in the area at the height of the fire.

The Herald News reported fire investigators were able to access the first building by late afternoon, but no cause of the fire was immediately announced.
