Revere, Mass. Mayor: It's Amazing No One Was Hurt In Tornado

Mayor Dan Rizzo said the town's City Hall is open after it was damaged in Monday's tornado

The City Hall in Revere, Massachusetts, opened again on Thursday, after it sustained damage in am EF2 tornado on Monday.

There are still some windows that are boarded up and some police tape surrounding the lawn. Mayor Dan Rizzo said they felt it could reopen on Thursday because it's safe for the public and employees; however, the town still has a lot of work to do.

“We've got door and window damage. As far as inside, I believe we’ve got some computer damage in certain cases, but overall, given the magnitude of the storm and what we saw here on Monday, I think City Hall is in pretty good shape,” Mayor Rizzo said. “I have to give a lot of credit to our staff here at City Hall. How no one was hurt or killed is just amazing to me when you’ve got an EF2 tornado blowing through the center of town at 9:30 on a Monday morning, and to see some of the damaged pieces of property including City Hall is just amazing to me. I’m just so grateful that we’re not talking about that. Instead we're talking about a cleanup effort.”

Mayor Rizzo said the city is still trying to estimate the cost of cleaning up the widespread damage. He said the city has already spent about $500,000 on tree removal services.

In addition, Mayor Rizzo said on Friday, they are going to announce a relief fund for people who want to help the city recover from the tornado.
