Rhode Island Health Officials Warn of Probable Measles Case

Officials are warning of a probable case of measles in an infant from Barrington.

The Rhode Island Department of Health is warning of a probable case of measles in an infant from Barrington, but says there is no public health threat because everyone who came into contact with the child has been treated.

Christina Batastini, a spokeswoman for the department, says on Monday that the child's doctor reported the case on July 21. Testing has been sent to the Centers for Disease Control. She says they hope to receive the results this week.

Batastini says the child had not been vaccinated, but was in the age window for the vaccination. The child's age has not been released.

She says they checked all of the people the child has been in contact with, and anyone considered not immune to measles has since been immunized.
