Rhode Island State Police are stepping up patrols through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

There will be more troopers on the roads through Sunday, one of the busiest travel times of the year.

They're looking for impaired or intoxicated drivers, seat belt and child restraint violations, aggressive drivers, speeding and texting violations and other traffic violations.

The state police received funding from the Department of Transportation Office on Highway Safety for the enforcement efforts.

Col. Ann C. Assumpico, state police superintendent, says the holiday season is a dangerous time of the year for fatal and serious motor vehicle crashes.

She's asking residents to remember to wear seat belts, be responsible and report dangerous drivers or hazardous roadway conditions to the State Police.
