Rifle Bullet Strikes Home Near National Guard Range

Bullet went through a second-story window in East Greenwich, Rhode Island

A range at a National Guard training center is closed while officials investigate how a bullet hit a nearby home.

East Greenwich Police say a lead bullet from a rifle went through the second-story window screen of a home on Pardons Wood Lane in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, near the Rhode Island National Guard's Camp Fogarty Training Center. Police are investigating.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Parente said Friday range operations are suspended, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Parente says the Guard is reviewing its range procedures to ensure that service members and local residents are safe. He says it's possible the bullet was an errant round from the range, but hunters do frequent the area.

The National Guard, other military services and local law enforcement use the range.
