Man Threatened to Shoot Child in Stamford: Police

A man threatened to shoot a young child while trying to steal the mother's wallet in Stamford earlier this month and police are asking for help to identify him.

The man had a gun when he approached the woman on Pacific Street at 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 as she was putting her 4-year-old child in the car, police said.

He tried to grab the woman's wallet and threatened to shoot the child, but a witness startled the would-be robber by yelling and the mother knocked the gun out of his hand, police said.

The man then picked up his gun and ran off, heading east on Woodland Place.

Police released surveillance video on Wednesday and ask anyone who recognizes the man in it to call the Stamford Police Detective Bureau at 203-977-4417.

He might not be from the Stamford area, according to police.
