Runners Ready for Boston Marathon

The Back Bay has been buzzing all day Saturday, with huge crowds out for pre-marathon festivities.

Thousands of participants in this year's marathon picked up their bibs in Boston this weekend.

Among the runners were two friends from Rhode Island who have run a combined 12 Boston Marathons.

Two veteran marathoners from Nebraska, both in their 70s, say they're among the oldest women in the race. And they have some sage advice for people considering getting in the game.

"I quit smoking in my 40s and started running," said Mariana Phipps. "It's never too late. Women, get up, start moving, and maybe we'll see you here someday."

Around Back Bay, security is ever-present, with gates going up for crowd control. Nothing is hampering the spirit, however, as we near the big event.

"It's a dream come true to even qualify, so to participate in the marathon, I'm just glad I'm here and to see the support of the entire city," said Christian Lambert of San Antonio.
