Woman Airlifted After Pedestrian Crash

A woman was airlifted after being hit by a pickup truck Thursday in Salem, Massachusetts.

Police in Salem initially told NBC Boston the crash was a hit-and-run, but the department has since confirmed the driver, a 26-year-old man, remained on the scene.

The victim, a 66-year-old woman, was struck in the area of Highland Avenue and Proctor Street. She was injured and taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital, where she is in very serious condition.

State police are reconstructing the scene to investigate the crash.
