Samaritans, Firefighters Rescue Woman From Burning Car

A group of courageous Maine firefighters and good Samaritans are being praised for rescuing a woman from a burning car.

WCSH-TV reports the York County Sheriff's office responded to a single-vehicle crash on state Route 25 in Limington around noon Monday. Police say 63-year-old Janet Heggeman, of Standish, lost control of her vehicle, veered off the road and crashed head-on into a tree.

According to police, Heggeman became trapped in her car when the tree above her snapped and her car caught on fire. Police say three good Samaritans and a crew from the Cornish Fire Department were able to rescue Heggeman before her car was completely engulfed by flames.

Heggeman is being treated for extensive injures that are not considered life-threatening at the Maine Medical Center.
