Sanitation Worker Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries After Car Pins Him

Worker treated at local hospital, condition not immediately available

A Portsmouth, New Hampshire, sanitation worker suffered life-threatening injuries Friday afternoon after he was pinned between the trash truck on which he was working and a vehicle that swerved out of control.

James Murray, 45, of Rye, New Hampshire, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, New Hampshire State Police said. His condition was not immediately available.

State police said Murray was working behind a city-owned sanitation truck, collecting trash when a vehicle driven by Michael Toner, 24, of Rye, New Hampshire, lost control and pinned Murray. Toner was not injured in the crash.

State police, Portsmouth Police Department and Portsmouth Fire and Rescue and EMS assisted at the scene.

State police are investigating with assistance from the Portsmouth Police Department.
