School Gym Named After Medal of Honor Recipient

The gymnasium at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School has been named for Medal of Honor winner Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti.

The gymnasium at Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School in Massachusetts has been named for Medal of Honor winner Sgt. 1st Class Jared Monti.

The weekend dedication ceremony was attended by Monti's family as well as dozens of classmates from the Bridgewater-Raynham Class of 1994.

The Taunton Daily Gazette reports
that Janet Ross, Monti's mother, said a gymnasium is the perfect place to honor her son because he was a talented athlete and loved sports.

His father, Paul Monti, said he hopes people who see his son's name live by the same standards: Always try your hardest; Never give up; Do the right thing.

Monti was killed in Afghanistan in 2006 by enemy fire when he tried to the save the life of a wounded comrade. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2009.
