School Playground Fire Was Arson

Boston Fire says the fire happened just before 10 p.m. Monday

Firefighters say a playground equipment blaze in Boston's Roslindale neighborhood is a case of arson.

Boston Fire said the fire happened just before 10 p.m. Monday.

The flames went up to trees and power lines near Charles Sumner Elementary School. The fire was quickly put out and there were no injuries.

Parents tell necn the playground equipment was relatively new, and cost about $10,000.

According to Boston Fire, they responded to the same location on April 18 at 4:31 p.m. for a small fire. That fire resulted in minimal damage, and was put out with a water extinguisher.

Although it is unknown whether the two fires are related, investigators are looking at both.
