Divers have resumed efforts to recover a body from a car that drove into the Lamoille River in Vermont.

The search was suspended just before 6 p.m. Monday. Divers made it to the car, but the current initially pushed them over the top of it.

Authorities said the state police scuba team and local fire and rescue departments were on the scene Tuesday.

Cambridge Second Assistant Fire Chief Dan Wyckoff says the vehicle was traveling west on Vermont Route 15 near the Wrong Way Bridge in Cambridge early Monday when it went into the river and headed upstream, before being turned around by the current.

He says there is a body in the car.

State Police Lt. James Whitcomb estimated the vehicle was submerged in 12-foot deep water.
