Senator Aide Resigns After Arrest for Soliciting a Prostitute

A senior aide to New Hampshire US Senator Kelly Ayotte resigns after he was arrested and charged with soliciting a prostitute.

A senior aide to New Hampshire US Senator Kelly Ayotte resigns after he was arrested and charged with soliciting a prostitute.

The Boston Globe reports that David Wihby, 61, served as the number two staffer behind Ayotte's chief of staff. Wihby was also an elected member of the Manchester, New Hampshire, school board.

Wihby is reportedly a former deputy commissioner and interim commissioner of the State Department of Labor and a former Manchester city alderman.

Wihby was arrested Friday in Nashua on a misdemeanor charge for soliciting a prostitute.

Senator Kelly Ayotte issued a statement, saying, "I am shocked and deeply saddened that David Wihby, my state director and a friend for many years, has been arrested under these circumstances. David obviously cannot continue his duties, and i have accepted his resignation."

Wihby was released on $2000 bail and will be arraigned on May 11, 2015.
