Sentencing has been delayed for a 33-year-old Maine man convicted last month of raping a 73-year-old Waterville woman after breaking into her home in February.
Justice Michaela Murphy pushed the sentencing of Mark Halle to Nov. 20 following a hearing Wednesday at the Capital Judicial Center.
Murphy said her reasoning behind the postponement was that the 20-year prison term proposed in a deal with prosecutors might not be long enough.
Halle beat and raped the woman during the early morning hours of Feb. 7 after he gained access to her home by removing an air conditioner from a living room window.
The victim addressed the court and asked that Halle be given the maximum sentence.
Halle pleaded guilty to gross sexual assault, burglary and criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
