3 Injured in Serious Crash on I-290

I-290 in Marlborough, Mass. was temporarily closed as medical helicopters arrived on scene

Two medical helicopters were called to the scene of a serious motor vehicle accident on Interstate 290 in Marlborough, Massachusetts, on Thursday.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 2013 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by a 49-year-old Old Town, Maine, man, had stopped in the left lane as traffic was backing up approaching Interstate 495.

Then, a 1998 Subaru Forester, driven by a 37-year-old Haverhill man with a passenger, a 34-year-old Worcester woman, struck the tractor-trailer from behind.

A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by a 58-year-old Charlton man, then struck the Subaru.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The driver and passenger of the Subaru sustained serious injuries; the driver of the Chevrolet pickup sustained minor injuries.

All lanes were temporarily closed, but have since reopened.

The circumstances of the crash are under investigation.

No names have been released at this time.
