Sexual Assault Reported at Fairfield University

The school is increasing public safety patrols.

A Fairfield University student reported being sexual assault on the campus on Monday night and the school is increasing security and urging students to be cautious and use the buddy system.

The woman reported that a man who was around 40 years old lured her from a path between the library and Gonzaga Hall and into woods, then punched her in the face and sexually assaulted her, according to police and a statement from the school.

School officials are working with the Fairfield Police Department to confirm the details and public safety is increasing patrols and offering round-the-clock service for a public safety escort.

They have also notified the school community and are urging students to exercise caution, remain in well-lit areas and use the buddy system when walking at night.

University counselors have been with the victim and her family since last night, the school said.
