7-Year-Old Shot in Boston Listed in Good Condition

Divan Silva, 7, was visiting his family when he was struck by a bullet

A 7-year-old boy who was shot in Boston’s Dorchester neighborhood Sunday is continuing to improve and police are continuing their search for the suspect.

Divan Silva, 7, was visiting his family when he was struck by a bullet. He was riding his bicycle to a store to buy some tuna around 4:30 p.m. when he was hit outside the Rodriguez Barber Shop.

Two of the bullets fired struck the glass of another barber shop on the same block. The other grazed the head of a 20-year-old man, who is expected to be okay.

Silva underwent surgery over the weekend at Boston Children's Hospital for a gunshot wound. The hospital said he was in good condition as of Tuesday afternoon and may be moved out of the ICU later Tuesday if his condition gets better.

Meanwhile, Divan's mother, Dijanira DeAndrade, is asking anyone with information to come forward.

"The Boston police have assured me they are working hard to find the perpetrator and my family and I are hopeful they are caught soon," she said in a statement, adding, "I'm overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from family, friends and the community; all I can say is thank you and please continue to keep Divan in your thoughts."

Police say the suspect is a 14- to 18-year-old male, approximately 5-foot 8-inches, wearing a red hoodie, white shorts and white sneakers. He may have fled the scene in a white, four-door sedan.
