Snowy Start to New England's Spring

Cold wind is finally diminishing overnight, with mostly clear skies as a high pressure center moves right over New England, but we're not done with winter as a low pressure moves off the coast of Virginia Friday with clouds and snow racing into the region.

Snow arrives in Connecticut, western Massachusetts and southern Vermont by early afternoon. The rest of New England has mostly cloudy weather with highs near freezing. Winds should be light from the southeast.

Snow becomes briefly moderate to heavy near the south coast by evening. Lighter snow falls along and just north of the Massachusetts Turnpike during the evening commute. Temperatures may be just warm enough that heavily trafficked roadways are more wet than white. But back roads, and all roads nearest the south coast. likely become snow covered by late afternoon. Snowfall amounts of 1-2 inches likely near the Mass. Pike, increasing to 3-5 inches near the south coast, especially in Connecticut.

For most of New Hampshire and Maine, the weather remains fair Friday and Friday night. That low pressure will race away Saturday, leaving a mix of sun and clouds with warmer air. Highs Saturday will be in the 30s north and 40s south with light wind.

Another cold front from Canada arrives in Vermont Saturday afternoon with rain and snow showers, or a squall. The front will weaken as it pushes off the eastern shores of New England Saturday night. The mountain of the north and west get 1-3 inches of snow with the front, a bit more in northern Vermont.
